Bio Nursery Prototype
The Bio Nursery Protoype project is an integrated Care Nursery located in the valley of Thriasio in Aspropyrgos. The main objective is to create a building of 1.708m² surface receiving 108 children and 20 infants in the site of 2.180,86m². It is a school building form which becomes familiar to the young users as the ‘lego’ type units have been used as the overall architectural idea. Each discrete volume hosts a special building operation so that uses are easily understood. The special building envelope treatment is characterized by the alternation of empty-full volumes, surfaces enriched by repeated vertical linear elements and point doubling of the building envelope. An architectural panel of various empty geometric shapes spaces operates at multiple levels: the child interest is aroused, the building character is highlighted in the city and the road noise is filtered protecting the yard. Furthermore, the overall design of internal and external spaces is based on the application of environmental principles, with emphasis on passive and active energy saving systems. The optimal orientation, shading systems, windbreak design and crossed ventilated spaces create the desired levels of daylight and natural ventilation. By the implementation of passive systems and techniques, a significant portion of energy saving is achieved in accordance to the standard requirements of a bioclimatic nursery.
